Hazel passed away in Burnaby General Hospital on June 28. She was predeceased by her brother Harry Spackman and her husband Art. She is survived by her children, John (Miriam), Carol Pettet (Dan), and Arthur (Karin Sattler); her two sisters, Mary Wright and Frances Plasman; as well as seven grandchildren.
Hazel was born in Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and she grew up in Burnaby. She attended normal school in Vancouver and taught school on Shuswap Lake and in Alert Bay. She met her husband Art in Alert Bay. They were married in 1949.
Hazel and Art moved to Powell River in 1954 where he worked for the telephone company and she raised their three children. She spent the next 58 years there and was well known in the community through her involvement in the garden club, her church, and St. John Ambulance.
In 2012 she moved back to Burnaby to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church, 9165 160 Street, Surrey, BC at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 3.
